The inside is glossy black (using my G2926B recipe). The outside is silky matte black (using my G2934Y recipe), this effect is called "gunmetal" and is highly sought-after. In ceramics, matteness is mainly a product of the chemistry (secondarily of firing schedule). By precisely controlling the levels of MgO, Al2O3 the glaze is matte yet still glassy, it has a silky surface that makes it feel soft-to-the-touch.
