Formulating a Porcelain
The principles behind formulating a porcelain are quite simple. You just need to know the purpose of each material, a starting recipe and a testing regimen.
|Oxides||SrO - Strontium Oxide, Strontia|
A pure source of SrO for ceramic glazes. It contains 70% SrO and has an LOI of 30% (released as CO2 during firing).
New Zealand Halloysite
The whitest burning kaolin we have ever seen. It is very sticky when wet, suspends glazes well & makes super white porcelain (with help from a white bentonite).
In ceramics, bodies of different colours can be kneaded together to produce a marble-like result. But caution is needed.
Ceramic stains are manufactured powders. They are used as an alternative to employing metal oxide powders and have many advantages.
