An indicator of the density and therefore degree of vitrification of a fired clay body. Typically a body sample is fired at a range of temperatures and absorption measurements are done on each to produce a graph of porosity vs. temperature. Absorption is measured by weighing a bar before and after boiling in water and calculating the percentage increase in weight. Use the SHAB test to compile this information.
