Lead has long been used in ceramic glazes and the hazards or its improper use have also long been known.The book "Research on Leadless Glazes" by William James Furnival was written in 1898 and was dedicated "To all who ardently desire and are working for the betterment of mankind". The book contained much interesting historical information about the use of lead in industries at the time.
