Notes

A very low plasticity mix of sand and low-temperature red burning terra cotta clay. It was mined, by I-XL Industries, near Elkwater, Alberta, Canada. It was used to cut the plasticity and drying shrinkage of the more plastic materials used for brick and pipe manufacture (e.g. 45R, 45D). Plainsman Clays also used it, for the same purpose, in red-burning bodies.

Clays that are not kaolins, ball clays or bentonites. For example, stoneware clays are mixtures of all of the above plus quartz, feldspar, mica and other minerals. There are also many clays that have high plasticity like bentonite but are much different mineralogically.
