Notes
October 12, 2026: Arcosa Pottery Plaster is technically close to USG No. 1. While not yet an operational equivalent, it is certainly a candidate for substitution.
Their published data provides the first useful basis for evaluating the replacement. Its consistency and strength appear to make it a credible No. 1 replacement. The higher published maximum expansion could matter for dimensionally controlled molds, jigger tooling and multi-part mold registration. The data sheet does not quantify absorption rate, saturation behavior or expected casting turns, so equivalence is not yet established.
It is interesting that they have temporarily suspended regularly scheduled small batch manufacturing of many industrial plaster products, this may be part of ramping up to meet demand for discontinued USG products.
