Amorphous Silica

Oxide Analysis Formula
SiO2 100.00% 1.00
Oxide Weight 60.10
Formula Weight 60.10

Notes

We are not yet aware of the uses of this material in ceramics. Since amorphous silica and regular silica (or quartz) have the same chemistry, then in glazes they should produce the same results (since they both will dissolve into the melt). Likewise, in clay bodies, the first time the material is heated to sufficient temperature it will convert into the preferred crystalline state.
