Matthey Frit 3701F

Alternate Names: FRIT 3701 F, Frit 3701, Frit 3701F

Description: General purpose alkaline frit

Oxide Analysis Formula
Li2O 2.10% 0.26
K2O 3.30% 0.13
Na2O 10.10% 0.61
B2O3 37.80% 2.02
SiO2 46.60% 2.89
Oxide Weight 372.20
Formula Weight 372.20

Notes

Slightly soluble, this can be suppressed by addition of Blythe antycrystalising agent RM484 or by using Blythe frit 5009 which is more stable, but has a higher melting point.
Use this frit for introducing Na2O into glaze formulas, as a binding agent for polishig disks, as a base for under glaze for reactive floor tile glazes

Blythe supplies the molecular weight: 373
and this partial formula:
1.00 NA+K2O+LI2O
2.86 SiO2
1.99 B2O3

and this analysis:
Na2O / K2O / Li2O 16.6 %
SiO2 46%
B2O3 37.3%

We have thus extrapolated this approximate formula:
SiO2 46.0
B2O3 37.3
Na2O 10.0
K2O 3.3
Li2O 2.00

Materials Frit
Frits are made by melting mixes of raw materials, quenching the melt in water, grinding the pebbles into a powder. Frits have chemistries raw materials cannot.
Typecodes Frit
A frit is the powdered form a man-made glass. Frits are premelted, then ground to a glass. They have tightly controlled chemistries, they are available for glazes of all types.
