Garnet Dust

Garnets have the general formula:

3(CaO|MgO|FeO|MnO) (Al₂O₃|Fe₂O₃|Cr₂O₃) 3SiO₂
ie. 3FeO Al₂O₃ 3SiO₂

Because of the and lack of cleavage planes, its main commercial usage is as an abrasive. However some ceramists use fine garnet dust byproducts in glazes.
