This is so far the best base from which to obtain true nickel teal crystals (caused by nickel zinc silicate) on an amber ground (caused by nickel spinels). The glaze should be used within a day of being mixed for best results. It will take a lower firing but this will almost ensure the formation of hatrurite (calcium silicate) crystals so numerous that the blue zinc crystals have nowhere to grow.
