Notes

A low cost ceramic sericite material useful to reduce firing temperature (it has good bonding properties because of its low PCE), control shrinkage, reduce absorption. Fires to a pink color. The material is prepared by mining and crushing.

Different grades vary primarily by iron content (and fire more pink and then more orange as it increases up to 6%), the analysis shown here is representative.

Typecodes Flux Source
Materials that source Na2O, K2O, Li2O, CaO, MgO and other fluxes but are not feldspars or frits. Remember that materials can be flux sources but also perform many other roles. For example, talc is a flux in high temperature glazes, but a matting agent in low temperatures ones. It can also be a flux, a filler and an expansion increaser in bodies.
