Precipitated Lime

Alternate Names: Precipitated Calcium Carbonate, PCC

Oxide Analysis Formula
CaO 56.10% 1.00
CO243.90%
Oxide Weight 56.10
Formula Weight 100.00

Notes

Made by heating calcium carbonate to remove the CO2 and make calcium hydroxide, adding water and purifying and then combining with the CO2 to precipitate the calcium carbonate back out leaving other impurities in the slurry. We are thus representing the chemistry as the theoretical pure CaCO3.

Ultrafine Nano PCC is also available (particles finer than 0.1 microns).

Typecodes Flux Source
Materials that source Na2O, K2O, Li2O, CaO, MgO and other fluxes but are not feldspars or frits. Remember that materials can be flux sources but also perform many other roles. For example, talc is a flux in high temperature glazes, but a matting agent in low temperatures ones. It can also be a flux, a filler and an expansion increaser in bodies.
