Richard Willis

Element, with the symbol Cl and atomic weight of 35.45
Its commonly used form is NaCl (common, table salt). Strong flux. Very dangerous as free gas, and in particular should never be mixed with sodium or used in the sodium chloride molecular form without adequate respiratory protection; nor, for its explosive potential, should it be used in its dioxide form (ClO2). Used with metals in it chlorurium form, as in AgCl, which is a bit more controllable, but even then the firing area should be outside with a wind away from the work are a; just as is recommended always for and by those who do salt-glazing, using it in its chloride forms, as in NaCl.
